The Badshahi Mosque in Lahore at golden hour, its red sandstone facade and marble domes glowing above an empty marble courtyard.

Lahore, Multan & Punjab Heritage

Six nights of Mughal architecture, Sufi shrines and very good food

6 nightsOct–Mareasy

The winter trip, when the north is shut and the plains are at their best. Lahore properly — three nights, not one — then Multan for the Sufi shrines and the blue tilework, and Taxila on the way back to Islamabad.

  • Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort and Shalimar Gardens
  • The walled city on foot at dawn
  • Qawwali on a Thursday night at Baba Shah Jamal
  • Shah Rukn-e-Alam and the Sufi quarter of Multan
  • Taxila, and the Gandhara collection at the museum
  • The Wagah border ceremony

About 12 hours on the road across 6 nights. Northern Pakistan is big and the roads are mountain roads. We show the driving day by day below rather than burying it, because the commonest complaint in this business is a transfer nobody was warned about.

Elevation across the trip

Altitude is the thing that most often spoils a trip up here. This is the profile we actually follow, with the acclimatisation nights built in.

Highest point: 540 m at Islamabad, on day 6. Day numbers along the bottom.

Not quite right?

Add a few days in Skardu, drop the long transfer, travel a month earlier, upgrade where it matters and save where it does not. Start from this itinerary and change whatever you like — customisation is free, and you pay only for the trip you confirm.
