The excavated mud-brick streets of Mohenjo-daro at first light, stretching to a flat horizon under a huge pale sky.

Indus Heritage: Karachi, Mohenjo-daro, Multan & Lahore

Ten nights following the Indus through five thousand years

10 nightsNov–Febeasy

Up the Indus from the sea, through the Bronze Age city of Mohenjo-daro and the Sufi heartland of Sindh to Mughal Lahore. It is the winter trip, it is almost entirely unvisited by foreigners, and it is the most historically dense fortnight available in Pakistan.

  • Mohenjo-daro, 4,500 years old and effectively empty
  • Thursday-night dhamaal at Sehwan Sharif
  • The Makli necropolis at Thatta
  • Multan’s Sufi shrines and blue tilework
  • Three nights in Lahore to finish

About 27 hours on the road across 10 nights. Northern Pakistan is big and the roads are mountain roads. We show the driving day by day below rather than burying it, because the commonest complaint in this business is a transfer nobody was warned about.

Elevation across the trip

Altitude is the thing that most often spoils a trip up here. This is the profile we actually follow, with the acclimatisation nights built in.

Highest point: 217 m at Lahore, on day 8. Day numbers along the bottom.

Not quite right?

Add a few days in Skardu, drop the long transfer, travel a month earlier, upgrade where it matters and save where it does not. Start from this itinerary and change whatever you like — customisation is free, and you pay only for the trip you confirm.
